A chairde rince

We should all be ready to  head to Killarney this coming weekend for a feast of Irish dancing. Instead we are still in ‘zoomland’,  in a gazebo, marquee or school shed. I know that the past year has been difficult and challenging for all and want to commend you and your dancers for your commitment, resilience and determination to push through to continue our shared journey in Irish dance.

Although we cannot meet in person this weekend, we will be together in spirit united by our love of Irish dance.

The decision taken by Comhairle na Mumhan to cancel Oireachtas na Mumhan 2020 as a qualifying for Oireachtas na Cruinne was not taken lightly. We know the disappointment it brought  to many, including ourselves.

It is devastating for the dancers who have made immeasurable sacrifices over the years, missing parties, celebrations , school events to attend class and practice. It is disappointing for the parents who have invested so much time , money and energy to allow their children to pursue their dreams. However we could not continue to postpone and reschedule adding additional financial stress and uncertainty. It is heart-breaking and frustrating for teachers who have tried everything to keep classes up and running and help children  stay motivated and focussed.

We have worked tirelessly to find a solution and while we cannot run an in person event at the moment, rest assured that we will leave no stone to run a gala event in Munster once government restrictions allow for it.

Thanks to all who have lobbied, campaigned and supported the various projects to raise awareness for Irish dance.

A special thanks to our Comhairle volunteers  and IWG members who have put in countless hours to find ways to support the region.

Until we dance again!

Munster Stand Up and Dance

During Lockdown 2020, dancers from each county in Munster took part in an Inter County Irish Dance Challenge. All dancers were invited to represent their county and this resulted in an incredible 1100 videos of talented dancers from Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford. Each video was presented by Marty Morrissey and supported by county GAA heros.
